Description

In ‘Model checking brake lining’, Helmut Newton harnesses the seductive power of the American car. Newton inverts the usual gender stereotypes to create a work that appeals to both universal male fantasies as well as the idea of the independent woman. Having spent a number of years as a mechanic and truck driver in the Australian Army, the world of automobiles was to form a crucial motif within his oeuvre.

I did find a wonderful girl last year, but the photographs that we did were more about motorcars.
